Nike was co-founded by Phil Knight, a University of Oregon track athlete, and his coach Bill Bowerman in 1964. Bowerman famously experimented with the waffle iron in his kitchen to create a new type of shoe sole, leading directly to one of the most valuable brands on Earth.
