The Philadelphia Phillies have acquired outfielder Steward Berroa from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for cash considerations.
In this move, the Phillies optioned Berroa to Triple-A Lehigh Valley and designated right-handed pitcher Yoniel Curet for assignment to make room for him on the 40-man roster. While Curet was an interesting bullpen option, he didn't showcase enough during spring training to remain with the team.
Berroa, 26, has made brief appearances in the majors but has struggled, posting a .504 career OPS and .167 batting average. He has not played in spring training this year but has a solid .733 OPS in his minor league career since 2017. For now, he serves as extra outfield depth, and further evaluation will determine if he can contribute significantly at the major league level.
