Domen Petrović is officially joining the Florida Gators basketball program. The 22-year-old Slovenian power forward made the decision to continue his career in Gainesville, adding depth to the frontcourt and bolstering Florida's already impressive roster.
Standing at 6-foot-9, Petrović averaged 16.6 points, shooting 39.5% from beyond the arc, along with 6.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists during his last season in Slovenia. His skills on the court are complemented by a strong relationship with Gators junior guard Urban Klavžar, his former FIBA U20 teammate. Head coach Todd Golden expressed enthusiasm about the impact Petrović will have, emphasizing his growth as a player and his ability to contribute both on and off the court.
This signing follows the commitment of center Artūras Butajevas, who brings his own set of strong stats from the U22 team in Spain. With both players potentially joining a roster that already includes starting forwards Thomas Haugh and Alex Condon, as well as guard Boogie Fland, Florida is positioning itself as a powerhouse in college basketball. The Gators face uncertainty with junior center Rueben Chinyelu still deliberating over the NBA Draft and the recent loss of guard Xaivian Lee, but the influx of talent is undeniable.
As the Gators finalize their roster, all eyes will be on the NCAA clearance process for transfer Denzel Aberdeen. If granted eligibility, he will further solidify Florida’s chances of securing the preseason No. 1 ranking. Expect a dynamic lineup come tip-off.
